Back in the 70's while Sam & I were serving as campus presidents, were attending a meeting with our spouses in the Caribbean. While checking in we learned that a)a sizable hurricane was bearing down on us, and b) most of the locals had split for higher ground shutting down most all hotel services. Not to deterred, we convinced one of the bartenders that if he would ride out the storm with us we'd make it worth his time. For and afternoon & through the night we watched as the sky darkened, the rains came and the winds howled. Huddled together with more of the DeVry family we laughed and laughed while just enjoying each others company. Lord knows how many Bahama Mamas we downed to find courage, but I do remember it was one of my most severe, but warmly remembered headaches. Sam was a rock-solid individual who possessed a giant heart, a fun-loving persona and a smile that let you sneak a peek inside this wonderful man. RIP
